Health Care Consulting and Yoga Integration

Drawing on my extenstive background in nonprofit administration, yoga, and healthcare administration, I specialize in developing non-profit health and wellness community programs and classes through grant writing and consulting services.  In my role as a Co-Founder and Co-Director of YogaCare, I help secure partnerships with community health centers and non-profit organizations to develop affordable and culturally responsive programs. I co-coordinates the strategy, business development, and fundraising of YogaCare programming. I have been practicing yoga since 1999, have been teaching in English and Spanish since 2006, and am certified by Yoga Alliance at the 500-hour level. Current teaching includes gentle hatha, alignment-based therapeutic yoga, and mind-body therapies at Chicago Family Health Center and CommunityHealth. I also helped co-found the Socially Engaged Yoga Network (SEYN) currently convened by YogaCare. I am also Founder & President of GrowthVisionHealth, a consulting company that works with nonprofit organizations on grant writing and management, capacity building, fundraising, program development, community planning, applied program evaluation, research, and staff training and development. My educational experience includes a Master of Arts in Social Sciences, a Master of Arts in Social Service Administration, and a Graduate Certificate in Health Administration and Policy from the University of Chicago, and I am a Schweitzer Fellow For Life. I have used yoga therapeutically to work with many different bodies from different cultures and with different conditions including (but not limited to) the following: grief/loss, HIV/AIDS, cancer, low back/knee pain, physical disabilities, anxiety, depression, stress, and burnout. I completed the Liberty Advance World Evolution Advanced Yoga Teacher course http://libertyadvance. org/ under Rudy Kadre and Miles Maeda, with continuing studies and influences by Gabriel Halpern, Gary Kraftstow, Judith Lasater, Pema Chodron, the Dalai Lama, and Ingrid Yang.

A GREAT YOGA TEACHER

I've attended Greg's sessions @the U of C for a few months now. As a breast cancer survivor, I knew part of recovery is dependant on 'keeping it moving,' not getting stiff. Greg is so patient and thorough, and tailors each session to the attendees, as opposed to 'canned' training. It incorporates so much more than yoga; his training in clinical therapeutics and social work shine through each session. A good person to learn from wherever you are in the city!

Just what I needed.

I am very self conscious when I am new at something and the fact that I have not been exercising or doing a lot of self care lately. I am a massage therapist, so I know how important it is to take care of one's body. Greg put me at complete ease and created a session that addressed my specific needs.

Very committed and skilled teacher!

Greg regularly teaches yoga to patients at our free health center. He skillfully tailors the classes based on our patients’ desires and concerns, integrating the physical as well as mental & emotional needs of the students. He teaches here in both English and Spanish. Greg has also offered self-care training for the staff at our non-profit health center. These trainings are experiential and teach techniques that can be applied to manage stress well beyond the training. Greg has a welcoming presence and is an engaging instructor. His work with our health center has been a real gift!

wonderful

Greg and I skyped and had a yoga session. He was so thorough in his intake session before we began. Then the breathing and poses were very helpful. I look forward to a session at his home soon.

surprisingly amazing

Once a month on my job we have in-service meetings. During this time different presenters are providing information and updates. Greg gave a presentation and it was so amazing that by doing the easy activities he took us through how much stress was relieved

Therapeutic & Informative

Greg's approach is calming and thorough. He has taught me a lot about breath work and poses that will help me on a day to day basis. It's always a treat to practice with Greg.

Great for Preventing Burnout

I first experienced Greg's yoga and relaxation teachings in group settings, both short and longer sessions. It is amazing how even a brief guided centering practice can relieve tension and increase focus. After several positive experiences in group settings, I began seeking individual consultation to tailor the practice to my own specific needs. I look forward to my next session with Greg!
