"If you listen to your body's whispers, you'll never have to hear it shout." (-Unknown)

This quote pinpoints the importance of body awareness. Our bodies tell us what they need, but we often forget to listen, or maybe we don't even know how. Regular massage increases body awareness, which enhances one's ability to interpret the body's signals and in turn improves general wellness and performance.

In massage therapy, communication is key. Many people hesitate or hold back when they experience something in a session that they don't understand or enjoy, assuming the therapist knows best as the expert. You are the expert on your own body because only you know exactly how you feel. My job is to let you know what to expect and to be open and receptive to any questions, concerns, or comments you might have before, during and after the massage. The best way to create the optimal massage session is for you to tell me if there's any way I can make you feel more comfortable.

BIO:

After spending some time in the corporate world, I decided to pursue a career in therapeutic massage to introduce more joy and balance in my life. I've worked with people recovering from injury, dealing with various health conditions, and experiencing chronic pain to find new solutions to relieve discomfort. My creativity and knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics help me to design personalized sessions tailored to each individual client.

My interest in bodywork deepened when I began training for my first marathon and incorporated massage as a regular component of training. I've always been an athlete, participating over the years in soccer, track and field, broomball, volleyball, skiing, ultimate frisbee, and distance running. As a massage therapist, I work with athletes spanning from amateur to professional to help them succeed by bringing my understanding of sport-specific muscle use, common injuries, and the all-encompassing desire not to let anything get in the way of training.

I've worked in a variety of settings including charity events, races, corporate events, a health club and a physical therapy office. I’ve also worked with the Northwestern University Athletic Department as part of the football team’s game recovery protocol. Currently, I'm thrilled to be working for and learning from the best in the business, Pierre DeBar.

Ultimately, my goal is to work with clients to restore the body's natural equilibrium. This includes teaching clients how to better understand and care for their bodies so the treatment extends beyond the session to become a part of everyday life.

So relaxing!

I'm so lucky to have found Emily! She is a strong and gifted therapist who listened to me, addressed my issues and then worked her magic on my running injuries. She is capable and intelligent, well skilled to address my problems. I left feeling so much better from one massage that I immediately booked another appointment to return. What a relief from daily stresses! I highly recommend her.
